Do you listen to music while doing homework? Is that bad? Do you respond to texts while doing homework? Then go online and find evidence to support your response. Please include the link to the site you use in your response. -5 points if you respond with no link. Do not copy other people's posts, ideas or links. You will get a 0 for plagiarizing.

ReplyDeletei tend to listen to music while i study and do homework. i only listen to orchestrical pieces and not any songs with lyrics so i can focus on the task at hand and not the lyrics.(http://education.seattlepi.com/listening-music-doing-homework-affect-grade-school-1365.html) the link above states that listening to classical music has a soothing relaxing effect unlike lyrical music which tends to be distracting.
ReplyDeleteI like to text and check my social media accounts while doing my homework. It helps me talk to my friends and see what other people are doing in that moment. After reading this article ( http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/technology/using-technology/homework-and-multitasking-can-it-be-done) I learned that reasearch shows that multi-tasking reduces learning. I also learned that with no distractions comes better studying and learning. I will try to change my habits while studying and doing homework.

ReplyDeleteIn This article it is proven that listening to music while doing homework is a distraction for you. The reason why is because while doing homework you are trying to comprehend the words and question. Imagine listening to music, where you are trying to comprehend the lyrics of a song while also trying to understand your homework question. This is what we call MULTI-TASKING.
I like to listen to music while I study because it helps me relax. According to https://www.uloop.com/news/view.php/149570/Do-Or-Dont-Studying-While-Listening-To, this can be a pro and a con. The pros are that the music helps with your attention, memory and anxiety. The cons are that it tweaks the order you memorize things in, and you don't focus very well
ReplyDeleteI like to listen to music while I do my homework. I believe it helps me work better in any subject except math or when I'm reading - because I need to be solely focused when I'm doing those things. After reading this article: http://college.usatoday.com/2012/09/10/should-you-listen-to-music-while-you-study/ I learned that listening to music while doing homework is fine, but it's better for your work ethic if you stay away from songs with lyrics. Calming music is the best, not generic pop or EDM music.
ReplyDeleteDepending on the task I'm doing music may be playing. If I'm studying for a test or quiz i don't listen to music because it distracts me, but if i am doing other things like math or writing definitions, music helps to keep my focus on that one thing. https://sites.psu.edu/siowfa15/2015/10/23/listening-to-music-while-doing-homeworkstudying-lead-to-better-results/. The thing I learned from this article is that I am not alone. Studying without music is more effective but doing other work with music helps keep your attention on the task at hand.

ReplyDeleteHonestly, I don't like to use my iPad or my phone to look up definitions and study guides. Every time someone sends a text, I always have to respond. I can't not respond because then I think what if it's on what I'm studying. There can be pros and cons to this topic. This also goes towards face timing to study with a Friend. Sometimes you can go off topic.. When your phone is near you, everyone is on social media and everyone is texting. Then if your phone or device is not near you then how will you search up study guides ,review sheets and check homework. After reading this article, it's best to not have your phone with you while you study because it's a big distraction.
I like to listen to music when I am doing homework or a project. But it can be distracting. According to this article (http://education.seattlepi.com/listening-music-doing-homework-affect-grade-school-1365.html) listening to music is not always a bad thing. It states if you lsiten to rap or pop it can be distracting and you can have trouble focusing. But for other people it can be motivating. It depends a lot on the music you like but also how the msuic effects you.
ReplyDeleteI like to watch YouTube videos and do homework at the same time. I know its wrong and I try to control myself.According to https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-not-watch-Youtube-when-I-have-to-do-online-homework ,it is distracting to watch YouTube while doing homework. This website also tells me good ways to stop watching youtube.
ReplyDeleteWhile I study for an upcoming test, I listen to music. (https://www.uloop.com/news/view.php/149570/Do-Or-Dont-Studying-While-Listening-To) I learned that it could both help and hurt you to listen to music. It helps because it blocks out all other distractions that might be in the area. But, it is recommended that you listen to a song that you have not heard before so that you can focus. When you listen to a song you like, your brain will automatically remember the lyrics, resulting in your brain not paying attention to what it is supposed to.
ReplyDeleteI usually watch tv or listen to music while doing my homework, according to this article multitasking can be detrimental to a young persons learning ability. This article --- http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/science/2013/05/multitasking_while_studying_divided_attention_and_technological_gadgets.html --- suggests that using your phone while trying to complete any task can have negative affects that cause learning to be spottier and your ability to pay attention to decline.
ReplyDeleteWhile I study or do homework I usually like to watch tv. Watching tv while doing work can be distracting. According to this article (http://www.beyondbooksmart.com/executive-functioning-strategies-blog/distracted-by-technology-focusing-attention-on-homework) being distracted by technology makes you lose focus on the task at hand very easily. This article also states that it usually takes longer doing work with technology rather than just being focused on only one thing. I learned that doing my work without technology would be easier on me and I am determined to make sure I change my habits.
ReplyDeleteWhen I do my homework, I always respond to texts from my friends. This can keep me from really focusing on my work. After reading this article (http://www.beyondbooksmart.com/executive-functioning-strategies-blog/distracted-by-technology-focusing-attention-on-homework.) I learned that if I am distracted while doing homework, I will not retain enough information from the homework, which means that I have to study harder and longer for my exams. From now on I will try to focus more on my homework assignments, rather than texting my friends.
ReplyDeleteI like to listen to nature sounds while I study. It helps me concentrate and focus on my work. After reading this article (www.huffingtonpost.com/.../productivity-tips-nature-_n_731421...) I learned that listening to these sounds can boost your mood and productivity, resulting in absorbing your work calmly.
ReplyDeleteWhile doing homework I usually reply to texts because it doesn't seem to distract me that much. After reading the article (https://www.sciencenewsforstudents.org/article/studying-don%E2%80%99t-answer-text) I learned that texting while doing homework or studying will distract you and ultimately make you preform badly on the test or get more questions wrong on your homework. This source did an experiment where students took a test without any distractions and then took a slightly easier test while receiving and replying to texts. The students performed very well on the first test, but scored nine percent lower on the second test because of being distracted by the text messages. Overall I learned that texting is very bad to do while doing schoolwork and it is more important to focus on that then what is going on in your messages.
ReplyDeleteWhile doing my homework, I usually check my social media apps in fear that I am missing out. After reading this article http://www.onlinecollegecourses.com/2013/05/22/how-social-media-is-killing-student-success-2/ I learned that my need to be connected through social media is effecting how well I do my schoolwork.
ReplyDeleteI though I posted my blog ealier, but i guess it didnt go through. When I did my homework or studied, I used to listen to music. Now I dont, but I do watch Netflix while doing my homework now. I do feel like that is definitely distracting me. This article: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/technology/using-technology/homework-and-multitasking-can-it-be-done explains how multitasking doesn't really work that well. Sorry for my late blog post.
