Pictures are a thousand words?

Pictures are said to be worth a thousand words. Artists and Cartoonists use images to convey meaning in powerful ways. Check out the following. Pick the one that moves you most, describe the one you've chosen and then tell us what it means to you in your own words.

  1. The picture that has moved me the most is the one with the computer mouse and the paint brushes being cut down. I think this picture means that the internet has the power to kill creativity. Examples of this are happening today, and sometimes we just have to take a step away from the computer, and use our imagination.

  2. The picture that truly was heartbreaking for me was the one that depicts a modern day family in their living room on what seems to be a holiday morning. The family members are all physically in a room together, but they are all mentally somewhere else. This is trying to show how sad it is that some parents are so obsessed with trying to document their children's childhood, that they forget to create real memories with them. It's some big holiday morning, the kids should be having fun and the parents should be playing or at least interacting with their children. Instead the parents are so preoccupied, the mom is holding a camera and the dad with the video recording device, that the children are just sitting there like it was any normal day on their devices. Pictures and videos are things that remind us of our memories, but real memories are experiences and times that you will never forget. What are those children gonna remember from that day? That their parents where too busy to spend time with them.

  3. The second one caught my attention the most. It represents how we don't see the value of the stuff we have until it's gone. People today don't understand how important the stuff we have truly is until we don't have it anymore. Sometimes we have to look at all that we have and learn to appreciate it, even if it looks insignificant.

  4. The fifth one caught my attention the most. Lookiing at the picture, you can see the well known symbol used for Facebook boldly standing out. Other things in the image include a man in what appears to be a jail cell. The man is looking out through the window with a big "f" of Facebook in the place of what I assume would be periscope. This picture shows us that today, people see the world through social medias like Facebook rather than going outside and experiencing it for themselves.

  5. The picture that caught my attention the most is the fourth one. From what I can see, there is a man who is cutting down a paint brush. He seems to be cutting the brush down with a chainsaw that is being powered by the computer mouse. I think this image is trying to say that technology is killing peoples want to create. That people are losing their creativity because technology is absorbing it. When technology takes over this much, people begin to forget the art of expressionism and keeping color in their lives. Don't let technology take over your ability to create.

  6. The second picture caught my attention the most. The picture shows that before we get something it means the world to us. When we actually have the thing we stop trying hard and forget to cherish it because we think we will never lose it. Once we lose it, we realize we should have learned to appreciate it and value it.

  7. The first picture moves me the most because, it resembles the world today. Everyone is so focused on technology that it's even hard sometimes to speak to someone face to face because we usually do it on text that we forgot how to do it in the real world. Due to this people are lacking their ability to talk socially. Now a days kids don't even talk to their parents about their issues now we can easily search up "How to tie my show" on google and find an answer. The world is lacking in the ability to communicate!!!!!

  9. The final picture moves me the most because people call themselves animal lovers when they are murdering others. Tragically, people don't know about the horrors of the meat packing industry and continue to buy from big name brands. Buying food organically from a source you know is reliable is millions of times better.

  10. The fifth picture moved me because it shows how dependent current society is on technology. The jail cell represents a place where the person is isolated and the f from the Facebook logo represents his only way of seeing the world. This man is so dependent on technology he would not go outside and that is a growing problem in today's society. In order to fix the on growing problem people need to spend less time on their devices and actually interact with others.

  11. The fifth picture is the one that affected me the most. As a frequent social media user I only just realized how the trends on social media affect how you see people. For example if you have glasses or bear any resemblance to Steve erkle your classified as a nerd. This picture really showed that we do not have our own opinions anymore. The picture shows that shows that this generation is dependent on social media to even form an opinion on an event hence the person using Facebook as a way to see the world.

  12. I chose the first one. It shows just how much people are getting obsessed with their technology that they don't pay attention to anything else. Instead of kids going outside to play one their bikes or play ball, they stay inside on their phones or computers. People have become so self involved with their own technology that they don't realize the world around them. It's starting to become a problem, and the first image depicts it perfectly.

  13. The picture that caught my attention was the first picture because it shows how much of todays population is using technology instead of doing other productive things. The use of phones with social media can limit and take away a childs outside sport. Like in the picture, the young boy has a soccer ball but he is by himself because all the kids around him are on their phones. This is the view of what we do today because I agree, technology is useful and helpful in many ways. But it also has it's negative effects on children, adolescence and adults.

  14. The second picture moves me the most. It is a picture of a chart that shows the value of something before you have it, having it, and after losing it. I find this so relatable. One example for me would be my rubix cube. I have always wanted a rubix cube and when I got one I used it...a few times. Then I forgot about it. But the other day I realized that rubix cubes were cool so I wanted to try and solve mine. But I can't find it. So now I'm sad. :(

  15. The fourth picture moves me the most. It seems that a main is cutting down a paintbrush because the computer mouse. What I think this means is that technology is taking over our creative mines and replacing it with foolish computer games. Technology is making kids not play outside or even sit down and draw. Technology is taking over some people's lives.

  16. The picture that moves me the most is the one of the bar graph. It demonstrates commercial value, the stages you go through with an object. Before you have it the value is high but when you get it the value goes down and you barely use it. So when you lose it, the value goes back up because things we don't have hold much value. This is very true of kids today because most people only wants things for appearance or cause it's a trend.

  17. The picture that moves me the most is the bar graph that shows how we value things . It shows how we appreciate things when we lose them. But when we have them we don't care about them that much. This is an accurate demonstration of children today because kids only want things when they don't have them and then they get it and then don't care about it until they don't have it anymore.

  18. The second picture connects with me because it proves that we only want things to make us look better, but once we have it, it's worthless. After we lose the object, we mourn the days that we didn't use it.

  19. The picture that caught my attention the most was the second one. It shows how much we appreciate things when we want them, have them, and lose them. It really shows that people care about the idea of having something more than they care about actually having it.
