Your turn.

In the last post we discussed how a community of readers gives new life to a blog. The great thing about blogs is that they can be about anything and it is a fresh perspective from outside the mainstream. Do you love to travel? Start a travel blog and it becomes your unique view on the topic. For this post I want you to pretend this is your blog.  Write a post about a recent experience you had with something you have a strong opinion about. It can be negative or positive. Your post should be 6-10 sentences at a minimum. Compare and contrast what you are writing about with other things similar to your topic. For example: If you are writing about a record from a particular artist, compare it to similar artists or the artists earlier work. Same for restaurants, etc.See examples for ideas. The key is to be passionate.

Ideas:
  1. Movie review
  2. Music review
  3. Travel experience
  4. Restaurant review
  5. Fashion review
  6. Technology

  1. At this day and age, kids and teenagers have become engrossed in technology and pop music. Songs by pop artists have become so repetitive that it sounds like every other song, which is why it is starting to sound dull. People have just lost good taste in music, which isn't there fault. Many have said that music was better back then, which I agree with. I'm not saying that certain songs aren't good now, but songs are starting to lose their "taste". But new artists are finally starting to turn things around. Harry Styles released his new single, Sign of the Times, on April 7th. Fans are blown away by the song (which includes me), and are excited to hear more. He has performed more songs such as: Ever Since New York, Sweet Creature, and Carolina. His music, which is influenced by past legends, is said to be a revival of Classic Rock. He even said himself that he was greatly influenced by musical icons that he grew up with; The Beatles, Queen, David Bowie, and so on. Some of his songs has said to sound like songs from the 70s or the "Classic Rock Age". An example would be Sweet Creature, that apparently sounds like Blackbird by The Beatles. People have even stated that he is "the new David Bowie", whom coincidently, he has acted as when he performed on Saturday Night Live. I personally love his music, especially his songs: Ever Since New York and Carolina. I also love how he has managed to shed his past image (a pop icon) and is greatly influencing the music industry.

  3. Even though many adults are always busy with work and teenagers busy with school and extracurricular activities it is always good to make time for travel and adventure. For me particularly, the only time really go on vacations is during the summer or the short time I get off for breaks throughout the school year. During the winter and springtime when it isn't very warm in New York so it is nice to go places in the south to experience warm weather. A place that I find very interesting is Charleston, South Carolina because there is so many beautiful tourist attractions and plants such as flowers there. Being so used to an urban city I loved Charleston because you could walk everywhere and there were so many parks filled with adorable dogs. All of the houses there are very historical and most are painted in vibrant colors, which you will never see in Brooklyn. Every weekend people travel to this giant market that goes on for a mile selling items hand made by hometown businesses. The food there is mainly fried, barbecued, or smothered in butter or barbecue sauce, but even though it is unhealthy it sure is delicious. The sunset there is one of a kind because each night the sky would turn a mixture of purple, orange, and pink. If you ever get the chance to travel somewhere do it because you will make so many great memories and try so many new things. I would definitely visit Charleston, South Carolina again in the future.

  4. Technology has been evolving since the first computer was made in 1946. It took up 1,800 square feet and weighed 50 tons. Our tech has come far from where we began; going from something that took up a whole room just to operate to small devices you can take anywhere. It has become part of our daily lives. This can be both good and bad for people. According to some generations before us, phones are something that distracts us and makes our generation stupid. But phones actually are good for us; giving us a way to quickly reach someone in case they're in danger. Or if they aren't able to talk to you in person and live far away, then you could use a phone to just have a nice chat with them for a while. With the rate that technology is expanding it's horizons, soon there will be AIs everywhere. I see this as a positive thing, because that shows how far humans as a species have come. Technology will continue to change the way the world around us works as it has in the past.

  5. Just like ideas and beliefs, music is always changing. Music genres always change too. Leslie mentioned that she believes music was better "back in the day". Some examples of these 90s rappers include Tupac, Snoop Dogg and my personal favorite, Biggie Smalls. I agree with Leslie 100% and that there are few artists trying to make music like it was back then. Instead of talking about the pop genre, I will be talking about the Hip-Hop genre. I believe that the 90s was the Golden Age of rap music. However, I believe there is a certain rapper who is changing the "rap game". This rapper is DeAndre Cortez Way, or simply known as Soulja Boy. You may remember his biggest hit, "Crank that", which came out in 2007. Other hits include, "Kiss me thru the phone" and "Turn my Swag on". I believe that Soulja Boy is truly making an impact.

  6. Perhaps that writing is a way to organize your life in a productive way. Many people journal and personally I think it's a great idea. I have always enjoyed writing throughout grammar school and would use it as a way to help me during the school days and write down anything that maybe could have been bothering me during that time. Writing is beneficial because it is productive and you can learn a lot about yourself when you are writing pen to paper and not just staring at a phone in the notes app. I have always enjoyed expressive writing and would use it as a way to help with how I was feeling. Any type of writing is an important thing to keep focused on and you can understand yourself a bit more when you are doing it. Many people don't see a reason for writing because they say that it is ''hard'', but even writing something down that says ''I don't know what to write''..could possibly lead to two pages of writing because thoughts may pop randomly into your head.Maybe it's writing something that is happy or journal writing, planning, expressive writing, listing, stream of conciousness and many more. Someone once told me that
writing always keeps the brain occupied. I agree with this because it helped me.

  7. Nowadays, modern technology has taken over more than just our minds. People are extremely consumed by their devices. In the past, it may have been musical devices or electronic games. In recent experiences, especially in restaurants, I have seen technology take over simple conversations. Parents are engrossed in their phones, while children play on their own electronic devices. These devices have replaced family conversations. In my family, at the dinner table or at a restaurant, conversation is important. We discuss whatever goes on in our days, either at work or at school. I don't believe that is common in other family's homes. Technology has evolved people to have most devices readily available to them. At any time of the day, anywhere, people are checking their emails and social media. Everyone knows where you are due to location apps. Just recently, adults and children were getting hurt while playing social media games while walking in the streets and or driving in their cars. Although technology can be useful and entertaining, family conversation and social interactions are important for personal growth.

  8. The New York Rangers took a tough loss in game six of the eastern conference. The second round against the Ottawa Senators. Madison Square Garden was excited for the game until the Senators put two goals up in the first period. Going into the second Ranger fans were worried. But then Zibanejad roofed the puck on Anderson to make the game 2-1. There was hope for the Rangers. Eric Karlsson gained back the two goal lead within 3 minutes. But the Ranger fans stayed positive going into the third period and Chris Kreider put a second goal in the net for the Rangers. The Rangers were pumping and pumping all third period but failed to close the one goal gap. By the end of the game Pageau put in an empty net to win the game 4-2. The Ottawa Senators are moving on to the conference final against the defending champions the Pittsburg Penguins. The New York Rangers are knocked out for the playoffs but I have a feeling they will be coming back strong next season.

  9. A pretty bad travel experience I have is climbing Croagh Patrick in Ireland. It's this mountain covered in rocks, which people climb as a pilgrimage. Some people even climbed it barefoot. My brother had this -great- idea to climb it during our vacation. The first hour climbing wasn't bad, because you had solid ground beneath you, but after the halfway point you didn't have solid footing, and you had to walk on loose rocks that were the size of your hands. People were falling all around us, and it was pretty scary. At one point you had to literally climb vertically. Eventually we got to the top after two and a half hours, and while we were standing there, people were taking out food and eating it, while we brought nothing but our sweatshirts. When we were at the top, we took a picture, and after ten minutes we started walking down again, which also wasn't fun. Plus it started raining halfway down. I really don't recommend this to anyone, unless you like mountains, but I'm never climbing it again.

  10. Alessia Cara is an artist who writes songs with meaning. She talks about a girl's insecurities in her song "Scars to your Beautiful" and I really like the song. In the song she talks about how everyone is beautiful and you don't have to change who you are to suit someone else. Another real life song is "Here". In this song she talks about how people would be influenced to do things they wouldn't normally do at parties. She is an upcoming artist and she is really inspirational. I think that she will continue to make good music with powerful messages to inspire others.

  11. Music is something that is very special to me. There are so many artists, so many songs, and so many genres. One of my favorite songs is A Little Too Much by Shawn Mendes. I really like this song. I always go to this song whenever I am feeling sad or stressed. It presents my feelings and it reminds me that I will not feel that way forever and I will feel better. It also reminds me that I am not alone and that everybody feels down sometimes. This song is one of my favorite songs.

  12. Although school can work can consume a lot of time, families should make time to travel and go on adventures. Taking family trips are important because it creates memories and allows you to explore and try out new things. Some of the best memories I have with my family are from trips. Whenever we go traveling it's always an adventure. Not only can you explore scenery on your trip, but you can also take nice pictures, meet new people, and also try new foods. So I suggest taking more trips and adventures with your family to really bond and create new memories that will last a lifetime.

  13. As the world changes, music also changes, especially broadway. Many movie musicals are coming to light, and companies like disney make money on the stage with musicals like the Lion King musical and Frozen on broadway. Other people, like me, like the darker side of Broadway, like Heathers the musical. Based of the 1988 cult drama, Heathers follows Veronica Sawyer's senior year of high school, terrorized by the three queens of the school- Heather Chandler, Heather Duke, and Heather McNamara. When she gets a chance to join the Heathers, Veronica must choose between normal teenager problems, or her new boyfriend who comes with a body count.

  14. Throughout years beauty standards have evolved and become more demanding of women and men. Although many people have different opinions on makeup this is mine. Personally I feel as if people use makeup as a way to hide their insecurities or to express their feelings because its an art. I recently started putting on makeup because its fun. I use products from the body shop because do not test on animals and are very skin healthy as makeup can get.

  15. Do you love oldie music? No, Im not talking about the music your thinking, Im talking about the good old songs from the old days. You know, September by earth, wind, and fire! TLC- I don't want no scrub. Forget about the new current music, and bring it back to the old days. If you like modern music I recommend: The Internet, Tyler the creator, and Mura Masa. I recommend this artist because trust me they will ease you out of all stress and make you DANCE!

  16. Wes Anderson is a director who has created many wonderful movies. My favorite film of his is The Grand Budapest Hotel; a story about a hotel concierge Gustav H and his adventures during and after world war one and two with his lobby boy Zero. The camera direction, color pallet, and score are wonderfully executed. Grand Budapest was nominated for 9 Oscars and won 4. I highly recommend this modern classic.

  17. Children should be able to travel. Even though they may have school, their parents have work or anything else. There should always be time for traveling. It is a good experience that will affect them for the rest of their lives. It is a learning experience, seeing how another country lives.

  18. About a week ago my friends and I went to eat but we were in a rush so we went to a popular fast food restaurant, McDonalds. They have recently installed giant touch screen devices that take your order, these machines could be very confusing at time and seem to make the workers job harder than it is. I got in trouble for using the machines wrong and as someone who has grown up with technology and has been adapting to it all of my life, I have to say in this situation, face to face interaction would be the best choice
